Global Contract Award For TEMS International

An independent Scottish oil and gas service company has secured a global multi-year contract with a leading Anglo-Australian resources company.

TEMS International, an Aberdeen-based drilling fluid systems specialist, has sealed a deal with multinational mining, metals and petroleum company BHP. The agreement will see TEMS International provide vessel audit, fluid management and compliance services onboard drilling rigs operated by the firm around the world.

The services will ensure operations remain compliant with environmental and governmental legislation, while also identifying where improvements can be made to drilling operations that in turn can generate efficiency savings.

Rigs operating in the Gulf of Mexico and in Trinidadian and Mexican waters form the initial part of the global service agreement, with the work involving four of TEMS International’s engineers. As the overall scope of the multi-year service agreement expands, the number of engineers employed by TEMS International will increase.

The announcement comes as TEMS International expands overseas by establishing an office in the United States. TEMS International LLC will trade from premises in Houston and will be led by newly appointed vice president of operations John Donaldson, who brings over three decades of industry experience to the role.

Creating a US business unit is the latest move in the firm’s growth plans and comes less than a year after it was founded. In addition to targeting work in America, the business is pursuing opportunities in the UK, Africa and Asia. Last year, it secured a two-year contract to undertake environmental and regulatory compliance, and drilling waste processing and treatment work at an onshore oil and gas waste processing facility in Tanzania.

Bill Walkingshaw - TEMS InternationalCapable of working both onshore and offshore, TEMS International seeks to work as an integral part of an operator’s drilling team, providing significant cost savings over the life-cycle of their drilling campaigns.

Bill Walkingshaw, TEMS International managing director, said: “Landing this multi-year contract is a major moment in our development. It affords great potential for our continued growth as a company and underlines the importance that exploration and production companies place on the services we offer our clients.

“Setting up an office in America within a year of establishing the business is a surprising achievement and testament to the hard work our team has put in to get us to this stage. Our independence from drilling equipment manufacturers and service providers is one of our key strengths, which is acknowledged by customers. Having a base in the US will allow us to better engage with customers, be more responsive to their needs and build solid long-term relationships with them.”
